ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Legends Reading Program was compiled and produced by Dr. Jay Polmar and Speedread America.
It is the result of nearly three years of research in stories and legends of Mexico, the U.S.,
and around the world.
Speedread America is a non-profit educational research organization. Founded in 1997, it offers
reading courses, speed reading courses, and accelerated learning courses, for adults and children in
several languages. The Legends program is a great leap into bi-lingual education and teaching English.
The speed reading courses were originated and developed by founder, Dr. Jay C. Polmar, and were taught at
colleges and universities throughout the United States from 1977 to 1993. The courses were based on
Dr. Polmar's research and the techniques he developed to improve the reading skills that we all have.
In 1997, the first of the courses, Speed Reading in Only One Hour, was put online. The course
has been sold to tens of thousands of people and is the forerunner of the Speed Reading programs that we
offer. In 1999, Dr. Polmar's Be Dynamic Through Speed Reading was added to the online programs. This is
Dr. Polmar's 7.5 hour college level course that he taught at 14 colleges and universities in 9 states
from Texas to Hawaii.
From 1999 until 2004, most of Dr. Polmar's college, and private corporate courses were put on the
speedread.org site and made available as downloadable, online books,
and audio courses.
Speedread America maintains accounting offices in the United States and provides full customer support
bi-lingually from their offices near Mexico City, the largest city in the world.
Technical support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at info@speedread.org.

MORE ABOUT THE LEGENDS
PROGRAM
The Legends Reading Program is an important part of a literacy and reading programs developed by Dr. Polmar.
At every level, they include reading improvement skills, stories about history, legends, myths, fairy tales, and each have
hidden meanings for a child's human development. Ethics, values, and self-esteem are all imbedded in the stories for
students to learn from.
Since the program cannot be only fun and games, you will notice that our testing is at a very deep level
of understanding. Not only will the children learn to read more, our program challenges them to have great comprehension
and greater thinking skills. Greater understanding of the legends create situations where students learn ethics.
Stories such as The Rabbit and the Lion, teach children to think and create solutions. Stories such as The Devil's
Bridge, makes children away of how the precise use of words can save your life. And of beginning story of The Boy and Devil
is perhaps the cornerstone of our course.
The Boy and Devil is a short story about a young boy walking on the road, seeking his fortune. He comes up
to a handsome man who asks him if he is looking for work. The boy says “yes”. The man asks if he can read. The boy, again,
says “yes”. The man said “that's too bad I want only a mozo, a boy who can't read to keep my library clean.” The young boy
was quick thinking. He said, that's fine, my brother is somewhat retarded and he's behind on this same road. You'll bump
into him, he can't read and he needs work too.” And the man and the boy parted ways.
So you can guess what happened - the boy put his hat on backwards, like the kids do today, and put his
vest on backwards, and ran off the side of the road, and headed back once again to meet the stranger, as if he were the
slow brother. And of course, the stranger hired the “slow” brother without realizing that it was the same boy.
While cleaning the library of this man and looking into his books, the young boy became aware that this
was indeed the Devil. And after several months, the young boy was quite adept in what he had learned, and the Devil had no
idea that he had been duped.
When the Devil walked into the library unexpectedly, one day, he saw the boy reading the books. He was
furious. He changed into his own Devil self. And the boy saw it and changed into a rabbit, and ran away. The devil changed
into a fox and chased him. And just as the (devil) fox was about to kill the rabbit, the rabbit became a dove and flew away.
The devil was furious and became a hawk, and then it was a fast and furious race. The hawk almost caught the dove and
instantly the dove became a pebble and fell to the earth. The (devil) hawk became a grain of rice and dropped to the earth.
When the pebble hit the ground it became a rooster, that saw the grain of rice falling. When the grain hit the ground the
rooster ate it. And that's why the Devil is afraid of little boys until this very day.
When you look at the messages in this story, READING can solve any problem, with reading you can change
your life, or conquer the devil. Understanding this, you will know why this story is the cornerstone of our Legends Reading
Program.
Bi-lingual, line by line, Spanish-English, the kids scream for more. We have more, many legends, stories
that the children can take home and teach to their brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. These are stories with
excitement, morals, ethics, and great stories of faith.
Our authors, Tad Haessler, John Stuart Todd, Ana Rosa Gomez Padilla,, Gerardo Tolentino, and many others bring the best of
life to children and adults to help them learn to:
